Phylogenetic position of Dorema within Ferula (Apiaceae)

چکیده

Abstract Dorema (Apiaceae) includes 12 species distributed in the Irano-Turanian region. The genus differs from other genera of subfamily Apioideae having paniculate inflorescences with simple umbels. Recently, molecular phylogenetic analyses placed six Dorema, including generitype, Ferula , thus subsuming former into synonymy latter. remaining congeners have not been yet included analyses. Here, we fill this gap by determining position these species. Because a low resolution some parts tree earlier studies, alongside standard set markers—nuclear nrDNA ITS and plastid rps 16 rpo C1 introns B -trn C intergenic spacer—we additionally assessed utility ETS sequences resolving infrageneric relationships genus. We 43 ingroup representing major divisions recognised most recent taxonomic revision. Although were successful obtaining all markers for newly studied species, they high support one clade within section Peucedanoides together formerly maximum likelihood Bayesian nuclear, plastid, combined data sets. addition marker to confirmed classification increased branch tree. However, many branches still remained unresolved. In particular, monophyly as suggested morphology has definitely confirmed. A new combination two nomina nova are proposed.

Chemistry of spices: bornyl 4-methoxybenzoate from Ferula ovina (Boiss.) Boiss. (Apiaceae) induces hyperalgesia in mice.

UNLABELLED Ferula ovina (Boiss.) Boiss. is a traditional Iranian flavoring agent used as an ingredient of spices and condiments. METHODS AND RESULTS GC-MS analyses of F. ovina aerial parts' essential oil revealed the presence of a number of rare aromatic esters of monoterpenic alcohols. The structures of these esters were corroborated by synthesis, and one of them, bornyl 4-methoxybenzoate, t...

Phylogenetic analysis of chloroplast rps16 intron sequences reveals relationships within the woody southern African Apiaceae subfamily Apioideae

Evolutionary relationships among 48 genera of Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) were inferred using maximum parsimony, maximum-likelihood, and neighbor-joining analyses of chloroplast DNA rps16 intron and adjacent rps16 3′ exon sequences. Emphasis was placed on woody members of Apiaceae subfamily Apioideae endemic to southern Africa, a region hypothesized to be the place of origin of this largely herbace...

Cytotoxic activity of the genus Ferula (Apiaceae) and its bioactive constituents

Objective: The genus Ferula L. includes perennial flowering plants belonging to the Apiaceae family. This genus is a rich source of biologically active phytochemicals such as sulfur-containing derivatives, coumarins, sesquiterpenes, sesquiterpene lactones, sesquiterpene coumarins, glucuronic acid, galactose, arabinose, rhamnose, and daucane esters. Over the last decade, considerable attention h...

Phylogenetic Diversity within Seconds

—We consider a (phylogenetic) tree with n labeled leaves, the taxa, and a length for each branch in the tree. For any subset of k taxa, the phylogenetic diversity is defined as the sum of the branch-lengths of the minimal subtree connecting the taxa in the subset. We introduce two time-efficient algorithms (greedy and pruning) to compute a subset of size k with maximal phylogenetic diversity in...
